REPORT ON SERVICES PROJECTS

1. Project Name :Rotary Love & Care Home Visitation Program

A. Project Objectives

To visit 60 family members of offenders/ex-offenders & show love and care to them. The mission was to boost their morale spiritually and physically during the difficult times.

B. Project Location

Area in Kowloon, Hong Kong

C. Project Description

We visited 60 low income family members of offenders/ ex-offenders and deliver the message of staying healthy and happy to all. On the early morning of 1 August 2015, a group of 40 made up of club members, social workers and friends visited 60 target family members. The mission was to boost their morale, spiritually and physically during difficult times, and spread the message of “Staying Healthy, Staying Happy!” Of course we did not come empty handed, we came laden with healthy gifts of oatmeal, noodles, rice and fruit. The families appreciated us most was not the gifts but for our time with them and to listen to their heartfelt words and also learning and sharing of each other’s life in general shows that we care. Our hearts were warmed by their smiles as we left each family with the feeling of happiness and hope, which touched us most.

D. Club members Involvement

10 members with 30 social workers and friends had participated in the visitations while 4 members had supported the logistics during the whole process.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

The message of our project and introduction of Rotary had spread around the community with the support of The Society of Rehabilitation & Crime Prevention HK and Community Investment & Inclusion Fund Organization.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

The family members of the offenders/ex-offenders had been motivated by our social workers and members during visitations. The positive message of “Stay Healthy, Stay Happy” had influenced them to be positive at all times. They were so impressed by our love and care bringing to their families.

G. Sustainability of Project

We had initiated this project while our club had not been chartered in year 2014. Our members had visited over 15 families in different days during the Rotary Year 2014-15. This is the continuous project which will benefit the family members of the offenders/ex-offenders.

2. Project Name:Staying Healthy! Staying Happy!

A. Project Objectives

To Serve 80 to 100 family members of offenders/ex-offenders with care & educate them to stay healthy & happy at all times.

B. Project Location

Tai Chi Restaurant in Chai Wan, Hong Kong

C. Project Description

We served 80 family members of the offenders/ex-offenders with care and educated them to stay healthy and happy at all times through a lunch reunion. A lunch reunion was organized for 80 family members of the offenders/ex-offenders and volunteers. Our participants were overwhelmed with joy as they happily met and chatted with our members again before sitting down to lunch. Besides eating and chatting together, we arranged a vocational service talk for them on the topic of “Nutritious Food” and a magic show with the theme: “Make Your Dreams Come True”. It was all very entertaining and informative. We hoped that they would be healthy both physically and spiritually at all times. The happy lunch was concluded with lots of endless interactive questions from each table.

D. Club members Involvement

12 members with 7 Rotarians, 5 friends and 21 volunteers had participated on the day of project while 6 members were responsible for the logistic and program of the project.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

We introduced Rotary and the service work of our club before and on the day of project to community. We promoted through individual Facebook page and messages to community with the support of The Society of Rehabilitation & Crime Prevention HK and Community Investment & Inclusion Fund Organization.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

The family members of the offenders/ex-offenders had become more positive in facing the difficulties. We only saw the happy tears in some of their eyes that day. This was also an opportunity for them to share their experiences among themselves which was a way to release their stress.

G. Sustainability of Project

This is the continuous project which will benefit the family members of the offenders/ex-offenders.

3. Project Name :Rotary Vocational Seminars to Youth

A. Project Objectives

To organize two seminars for youngsters with age group from 16 to 26 on how to enjoy life and job.

B. Project Location

Classroom in Causeway Bay San Po Kong

C. Project Description

We had organized two seminars especially to 12 youngster with age group from 16 to 26 on how to enjoy their jobs and life on 1 February and 5 March 2016 respectively. The topics would include the sharing of different industries such as Travel, Magic and Jewelry. The sharing on how to start up the related businesses also interested by all participants. Other than that, the topics on how to write the Resume, Cover Letter and tips for interviews also aroused the audiences so much. There were lots of interactive questions from the floor. The topic on how to enjoy life and job, body languages, the uses in English, Genetic and Characters also made the youth returned to us and requested us to organize more seminars of similar kinds to them.

D. Club members Involvement

6 members had been the speakers of the seminars for different designated topics which would interested and requested by the participants while the other 7 members would be facilitators and supporters.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

We promoted Rotary and seminars through friends, Rotaractors and Interactors in the District. It was our professional image from speakers and members that really counted a lot.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

The participants would have more development at this stage. Good attitude on treating people around and working in the community would be one of the major assets when they stepped out to serve the community. They would be the future of tomorrow.

G. Sustainability of Project

The mentor and mentees program are always most welcome by members and mentees. We would continue to be the mentors of the project.

4. Project Name: Rotary Debate Competition for Schools in Hong Kong

A. Project Objectives

9 Rotary clubs from Area 8 jointly organized debate competitions for all secondary schools in Hong Kong. The aim was to educate the secondary schools students getting aware of family harmony through debate competition. This would allow the students in Hong Kong to have opportunities to learn, share and respect each other.

B. Project Location

Secondary schools in Kowloon, Hong Kong

C. Project Description

There were 9 members joining the Debate Competition as judges in different round and CP Sally Ho was in the Working Organizing Committee helping out for the promotion. There were over 150 students joining the debate competitions after selection from the Working Committee on topics related to family relations. The 9 Rotary clubs which jointly organized were: Rotary E-Club of Tamar Hong Kong; Rotary E-Club of District 3450; RC of HK Financial Centre; RC of Kowloon East; RC of Kowloon Northeast; RC of Kowloon Northwest; RC of Kowloon Tong; RC of Kowloon West and RC of Kwun Tong. 9 Rotary clubs had a very great coordination and team work all through the process of the project. Each Rotary club had selected their members and friends to be judges. Our club members had enjoyed participating the debate competition so much. They had great comments sharing to the students after the debate competition each time. The secondary students had demonstrated the talents of good factual presentations, negotiation skills and team work.

D. Club members Involvement

9 members had been judges in different rounds of debate competitions.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

We had promoted the project through the publication of newspaper by Sing Dao Daily and invited distinguished guests from the Education Department to be our judges.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

This is a project to develop the youth becoming the future leaders of tomorrow with right attitude towards life, work and family.

G. Sustainability of Project

The “Rotary Debate Competition for Student in Hong Kong” had been organized for six years with 9 clubs from Area 8. The result was fruitful and positive feedbacks from schools and Education Department.

5. Project Name: Rotary Feeding Program –Summer Soup Kitchen and Gift Giving

A. Project Objectives

To feed the children who have no food and shelter in the less developing area of Philippines

B. Project Location

In Philippines, Manila

C. Project Description

We had invited RC of Quironi Manila Central of District 3810 in Manila as services partner and jointly organized a “Feeding Program- Summer Soup Kitchen & Gift Giving” to serve 200 children and 50 families in Quezon City, Manila. Those children were without houses and shelters to live and they were lack of daily food. We also invited Rotaractors from Rotaract Club of Chinatown Manila to join us as volunteers distributing food to all children on 10 April 2016. The spouses of Rotarians from RC of Quironi Manila Central had helped us to buy the blankets, clothes, slippers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels other than the nutritious food such as chicken congee, bread, biscuits, eggs which had distributed to the children. None would care about our sweating faces as it was such a very meaningful day working together with Rotarians, Rotaractors and spouses serving the needy in this special way.

D. Club members Involvement

6 members had involved in the communication and progress of the project and 5 members had joined the project on 10 April 2016. There were 50 volunteers including Rotarians, rotaractors and spouses in the project.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

There were promotions from RC of Quironi Manila Central and the real contact of the participants in Quezon City.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

Special love and care to the children who have no shelter to live and lack of food daily in Manila.

G. Sustainability of Project

The similar small project had been implemented at the club level by RC of Quironi Manila Central so far. They will distribute the food to less fortunate children in Philippines, Manila.

6. Project Name:Rotary Global Grant Project

A. Project Objectives

To provide training to parents taking care of autistic children in Guangdong Province, PRC.

B. Project Location

Guangzhou, Guangdong, PRC

C. Project Description

The global grant intends to address the issue of inadequate training of professionals and parents taking care of autistic children and enhance the local capability of early intervention. The project was initiated by RC of Tolo Harbour and RC of Taipei Pailing Taiwan with 17 participating clubs in District 3450. We are one of the participating club. Training will be provided to teachers, parents and social workers on skills to handle children’s behavioral problems and stress management of the parents. 100 teachers, 300 parents and 20 social work undergraduates will be selected from various locations in the province for participating in training courses provided by a leading organization specializing in servicing children with special needs for more than half a century in Hong Kong. Children under their care will benefit with the new skills and knowledge acquired. The number of children directly under the care of the selected teachers is estimated to be 500. The launching ceremony was held on 2 April 2016 at Guangzhou Library together with the training to participants on that day.

D. Club members Involvement

3 members had involved in the coordination of launching ceremony and 3 members had participated for the launching ceremony in Guangzhou.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

Build public image from publication of Newspaper in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, media in Hong Kong and Guangzhou with support by Heep Hong Society.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

To build better relationship with parents and children, well treatment for autistic children through training.

G. Sustainability of Project

It is a project to develop the training kits for the parents of autistic children for nearly 20 years from Heep Hong Society. Rotary clubs have made use of this resources to help the autistic children and family in other ways.

Project Name : Rotary District Mentorship Program

A. Project Objectives

To utilize the Rotary platform to connect Rotarians, Rotaractors & Interactors expanding stronger and supportive Rotary network. They learn and share from experienced Rotarians on life and work.

B. Project Location

Kowloon, Hong Kong

C. Project Description

The youth will explore ways to success in one’s life journey including building up of visions, leaderships, character and value. They will cultivate global vocational mindset and cross cultural sensitivity and develop one’s strength and passion towards sustainable life goals setting. Our clubs had 5 members being mentors and we had 10 mentees. We have shared our life experiences to them and hope that they could gain more experiences at work and in family.

D. Club members Involvement

5 members had involved the project and to be mentors for the Rotaractors and Interactors.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

Introduce the mentor and Mentee program through Facebook of each individual network.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

This will help to develop the future leader of tomorrow and provide right attitude to all mentees

G. Sustainability of Project

The mentors and mentees have built a relationship with each other with trust and confidence.

Project Name :Rotary Driving License Training for Offenders

A. Project Objectives

To provide driving license training to the offenders as to help them to involve into the society again

B. Project Location

Hong Kong School of Motoring, Hong Kong

C. Project Description

We had organized a driving license training to offenders with 9 Rotary Clubs of Area 8. This would allow the offenders an opportunity to involve into the society again. They could be a driver of the private car, bus and van after they had passed the examination of the driving related license. The 9 Rotary clubs were Rotary E-Club of Tamar HK; Rotary E-Club District 3450; RC of Financial Centre; RC of Kowloon East; RC of Kowloon Northeast; RC of Kowloon Northwest; RC of Kowloon Tong; RC of Kowloon Tong; RC of Kowloon West and RC of Kwun Tong. The project was still in progress and the logistics and coordination had started in January 2016.

D. Club members Involvement

Since it is still in progress of coordination, only two members had involved in the Working Committee.

E. Enhancement of Rotary Public Images

Two Visitations had arranged for Presidents of Area 8 to the Correction Center.

F. Benefits to the Project Local Community

It will help the offenders to involve into the society again.

G. Sustainability of Project

The Working Committee will closely monitor the progress of it
