District Conference 2014-15

25 Apr 2015 12:00 PM - 05:00 PM

Location : Regal Airport Hotel

The 55th District Conference was held on 25-26 April 2015 at Regal Airport Hotel. It was the most important annual event to celebrate and showcase the good works which Rotarians in our District 3450 had done in this Rotary Year.

“Sustainability” was the theme of this year Conference. There were 3 pillars in Sustainability- Social, Environment and Economic. There were many renowned honorary speakers to share their viewpoints on various subjects with us. The keynote speaker in the first plenary session was Professor Timothy Tong, JP, President of HK Polytechnic University who spoke on topic “Education for Sustainable Development: the PolyU case”. In the second plenary session, the special speaker was Dr. Christine Loh, OBE, JP, Under Secretary for the Environment in Hong Kong with topic: “Christine Loh’s personal views on improving health and livability in Hong Kong.” Both speeches were influential and inspiring. The breakout sessions were comprehensive with lots of experiences sharing. The sessions included “Light Up Rotary Membership”; Light Up Rotary Public Image”; “Airport Development” and “Sustainable Social Services”. Of course we could not miss the New Generations in the third plenary session. This session was presided by PDG Peter Wong. The two Elite Athlete speakers were Ms. Sarah Lee Wai Sze and Mr. Shek Wai Hung sharing their challenging experiences especially to all Rotaractors and Interactors.

We had 6 members in Rotary E-Club of Tamar HK joining the District Conference namely CP Sally Ho, VP Anthea Lee, PR Chair Jack To, Club Administration Chair Natalie Ng, Vocational Service Chair Edith Tang and Vice PR Chair Maggie Ma. They gained new experiences, insight and better acquainted with other Rotarians in the District Conference. They were so interested to know the community services projects from other Rotary clubs through the House of Friendship.

The Governor’s Banquet was so entertaining with lots of singing and dancing performances. The most unique one was the funny and impressive Presidents Performance which had demonstrated the great team work of all Presidents. It was a special gift to our District Governor Belinda Yeung from all Presidents.

As usual, it was the ladies who crowded at the Rotary accessary booths selecting and bargaining the Rotary pins, earrings, card holders etc. Our female members were not the exception especially this was the first time they attended the 55th District Conference. To be sure, they will join the 56th District Conference in coming Rotary Year!
